Shibori

On June 29, 2019 at the Downtown Farmers Market located at Ancestor Square, I along with my partner in thyme, Ms. Victoria taught little homesteaders how to do shibori technique to dye fabric. It was a wonderful experience because it had all the magic that we always have at the market but especially this activity revealed the most beautiful patterns. I recommend a trip to the Saturday market held May through October - the vibe is the best because the best people are at the market. People like local artisans, craftsmen, farmers and growers, and the like. It's not just a trendy place to be, it's the place to be!

I recorded the event with many photographs, and I just felt inspired to put together this painting to commemorate just how awesome the morning was that day. My three girls were with me helping out. My oldest daughter helped paint faces, and she is pictured (at least the back of her head) in the lower left corner. And then my youngest daughter is pictured holding up her shibori fabric square in the middle right (with the black hat and blonde bangs covering her eyes). I have never really painted images of my children before but I like it and I think I am going to start including them more often.

Color Explosions

The Southern Utah Art Guild is sponsoring another upcoming show for all members. The theme is "Color Explosions." I have been thinking about joining this event and I decided to paint this little creature last night. I knew I wanted something like this particular animal because it almost blends in with its habitat except for his pink bum and striking blue and red face. So, it's a splash of color in an otherwise mostly green environment.

Nursery Art is also one of my favorite genres and something that appeals to me. I run an in home preschool a couple days a week, and this looks like the perfect little piece to share during "animals of the world month."

Mandrill in Congo
11.25" x 8.25"
Acrylic on wood

I was on a painting kick for a few days after Mandrill in Congo, and I painted three other splashy paintings. First I completed a beach themed landscape with flamingos. Then I did by request, a fireworks explosion with children on the beach looking on. And lastly, I did a funky little duo of whimsy nature creatures looking on. I think the two most qualified for the Art Show "Color Explosions" are the fireworks painting and the funky nature duo.

What do you think?

Memorial Day - Pine Valley, UT

On my drive up to Pine Valley for Memorial Day,
we were greeted by the line of U.S. flags on both sides of the road.
I thought it would make a nice painting - and it does :)

SUAG

Today I signed up to join the Southern Utah Art Guild. So, I thought I would put together an official Fine Art page of my work. I have lots of work that has been sold that I can't find photographic proof of, but - listed in the portfolio are some recent works for sale and also some others that have sold or are in private collections overseas.
